Erhardt Construction completed the Phase 1 renovation of Grand Valley State University’s Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Michigan, delivering strategic improvements to the higher education athletic facility while the surrounding complex remained fully occupied. The project included a 2,800-square-foot interior build-out, replacement of the north and south bleachers with 1,476 new seats, three 25-person suites, a 35-person lounge, two private unisex restrooms, enclosed equipment storage, new flooring, and integration with existing MEP systems. Erhardt also coordinated with GVSU’s scoreboard, audiovisual technology, and basketball court improvements. Working within a defined donor-funded budget and accelerated schedule required extensive pre-construction planning, early procurement, and close trade partner coordination. Long-lead bleacher systems were released early to support the required completion date, while the new suites required complex structural coordination, including raising the floor approximately two feet to accommodate MEP systems and improve spectator sight lines. The completed renovation delivers a modernized, GVSU-branded environment that enhances the arena experience for students, student-athletes, alumni, fans, donors, and visitors while positioning the facility for future improvements.
