The Children’s Healing Center (CHC) is a medical nonprofit facility dedicated to providing a safe, uplifting space where families with immunocompromised children can find connection, comfort, and care. As demand for its unique blend of socialization, recreation, education, and play therapy grew, CHC outgrew its original Fulton Street location—prompting a thoughtful medical nonprofit facility renovation to better serve its community.
After completing previous build-out projects for CHC, Erhardt Construction was selected to lead their new medical nonprofit facility renovation—transforming a former college administration building into the Center’s new headquarters. The project scope included the renovation of three of the building’s four wings and the demolition of the fourth, which was replaced with a new half-gymnasium and entry addition.
The reimagined space now features a wide variety of purpose-built areas: art and playrooms, multipurpose activity rooms, a teen hangout, a café, a parent relaxation and counseling area, and administrative offices for CHC staff. A hospital-grade HVAC system was installed to ensure consistently clean air throughout the building—essential to the Center’s mission. The interiors were designed with bright, welcoming finishes and handwashing stations throughout to support a healthy, joyful environment.
Erhardt was brought in early to collaborate with the architect during the design-build phase, ensuring constructability and alignment with the client’s vision and timeline. Construction began in August 2023 and was completed in September 2024.
