Erhardt Construction Receives National Excellence in Construction® (EIC) Pyramid Award

We are excited to announce earning a National Excellence in Construction® Pyramid Award, presented during Associated Builder and Contractors Convention 2022 in San Antonio, on March 16. The EIC awards are the construction industry’s leading national competition that honors general and specialty contractors for world-class, safe and innovative construction projects from across the nation.

“We are especially proud of our Erhardt project team, our partners, and every single one of the skilled tradespeople on the job,” says Ben Wickstrom, Erhardt President & CEO. “From the design, implementation, fundraising, and people, the Amy Van Andel Library & Ada Community Center is in the hall of fame.”

We began the construction of the library and community center in 2019. Through planning, coordination and teamwork, the project was completed on time and under budget and opened to the public in early 2021.

The Amy Van Andel Library and Ada Community Center

The 24,000-square-foot library sits in the heart of the Ada Village and offers a warm welcome to those who enter from the main thoroughfare. It is a symbol of a community coming together and overcoming challenges. It features more windows than any library in the area. It was designed with innovation in mind, while still feeling at home in the village of Ada. The ability to see through the windows into other parts of the library represents learning and reading itself – a new perspective offered to knowledge not yet discovered. Project Superintendent Brian Darling talks about one of his favorite aspects, “The amount of space that was dedicated to children and the intentional planning of it all makes the library stand out to me.” The colorful, unique space on the first floor of the building is dedicated to young readers. With over 7,000 books and media, the children’s area of the library is designed for them to be able to reach, play, and learn – all at their height. The interactive play space encourages learning through exploration and discovery, as well.

Project Manager Nick Haglund adds, “I grew up in Ada and have read thousands of books from the KDL library system over my lifetime. The absolute joy I feel for being a part of the team to design and build the Amy Van Andel Library and Ada Community Center in this town cannot be overstated.”

“For over 30 years, ABC has been honored to award outstanding construction projects like the Amy Van Andel Library & Community Center by Erhardt Construction” said 2022 National Chair of the ABC Board of Directors Stephanie Schmidt, president, Poole Anderson Construction, State College, Pennsylvania. “Through hard work on this project, Erhardt shows the value of teamwork, overcoming challenges and creativity on the jobsite.” The EIC award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects are judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation and safety. A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year’s judges included representatives from the Smithsonian Facilities Construction Division, Construction Management Association of America, Engineering News-Record, Design-Build Institute of America, University Research Institute and various construction-related firms nationwide.
